These principles were formulated by the first President of Indonesia, Ir. Sukarno, and these principles played an important role in the ideology and governance of the country.

The “soul” of Pancasila can be understood as the core values, principles and ideals that underlie this philosophical framework, each principle has its own core values, principles and ideals, including:

  1. Ketuhanan yang Maha Esa: Pancasila does not support atheism or adherents of certain religions, but rather provides freedom of religion to every Indonesian citizen and respects various religious beliefs.
  2. Kemanusiaan yang Adil dan Beradab: Pancasila emphasizes the importance of fair treatment of all humans and upholding ethical norms in human relations. It covers aspects such as human rights, social justice, and morality.
  3. Persatuan Indonesia: Pancasila emphasizes the importance of the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation, which consists of various ethnicities, cultures and religions. Pancasila encourages the spirit of nationalism and unity in diversity in the spirit of cooperation and tolerance.
  4. Kerakyatan yang Dipimpin oleh Hikmat Kebijaksanaan dalam Permusyawaratan/Perwakilan: Pancasila reflects a commitment to democratic principles, where the collective wisdom of society directs decision making through a process of deliberation and representation. Pancasila emphasizes the importance of active participation of the people in the political process.
  5. Keadilan Sosial bagi Seluruh Rakyat Indonesia: This value emphasizes the importance of just and equitable development, so that all Indonesian citizens have equal opportunities to access resources and benefits from social and economic progress, with the elimination of poverty and reduction of social disparities as one of the main goals.

Pancasila is a world view and philosophy that reflects Indonesia’s vision of a country that is just, democratic, and culturally and religiously diverse, as well as realizing prosperity for all its people. This is the foundation for Indonesia’s development as a strong and sovereign country and a just and harmonious society. Although in practice there can be debate and challenges in achieving it, Pancasila remains an important guide for Indonesia in achieving these goals.
