Di satu sisi keterlibatan keluarga mampu menyediakan keuntungan kompetitif, tapi hal tersebut bagai pisau bermata dua jika tidak dikelola dengan benar. Kepentingan manajemen dan kepemilikan memainkan peran kritis dan terpenting dalam pengembangan perusahaan keluarga.<\/p><p>Kepentingan keluarga merujuk kepada langkah-langkah yang diambil untuk memastikan bahwa perusahaan berjalan dengan lancar, terlepas dari keterlibatan ikatan keluarga. Di dalamnya termasuk mewujudkan jalur komunikasi yang jelas diantara anggota keluarga, menetapkan peran dan tanggungjawab, dan menerapkan sistem tata kelola yang baik dan gamblang. Kepentingan kepemilikan, di sisi lain, tertuju pada tujuan untuk menyeimbangkan kepentingan keluarga dan kebutuhan perusahaan. Termasuk di dalamnya permasalahan yang mengarah pada rencana hak waris, kontrol kepemilikan dan tata cara pengelolaan warisan keluarga.<\/p><p>Perbedaan antara perusahaan keluarga dan non-keluarga melampaui pertalian hubungan keluarga. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perusahaan keluarga cenderung memiliki masa bakti CEO yang lebih panjang daripada perusahaan non-keluarga. Ada pun perusahaan keluarga memiliki kecenderungan untuk memiliki direktur yang diangkat dari anggota keluarga. Dinamika yang demikian ini dapat mempengaruhi pembuatan keputusan, sebagaimana seorang anggota keluarga akan mengutamakan kepentingan keluarganya sendiri dibandingkan dengan kepentingan keluarga besar (dalam perusahaan). Namun demikian, penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa perusahaan keluarga cenderung memiliki tingkat kepaduan yang lebih tinggi, dimana itu dapat berpengaruh positif pada bisnis keluarga yang dijalankan secara jangka panjang.<\/p><p>Dalam hal pewaris dan penerus bangku CEO, perusahaan keluarga memiliki beberapa pilihan. Perusahaan bisa saja memilih keputusan untuk menaikkan jabatan orang dalam keluarga, yaitu seseorang yang sudah terlibat dalam bisnis dan mampu mengarahkan kompleksitas dari dinamika keluarga yang ada. Sebagai alternatif, perusahaan juga bisa memilih seseorang dari luar, seseorang yang membawa perspektif baru, angin segar dan ide-ide baru. Orang luar yang tidak ada hubungan pertalian keluarga juga bisa dipertimbangkan, khususnya jika anggota-anggota keluarga yang terlibat dalam perusahaan tidak cukup memiliki kemampuan atau pengalaman dalam menjalankannya. Dan pada akhirnya, orang dalam non-keluarga juga bisa dipilih jika anggota-anggota keluarga tidak ada yang tertarik atas keterlibatan langsung dalam kepemimpinan perusahaan.<\/p><p>Setidaknya ada tiga tahapan dalam pengembangan bisnis keluarga yang kemudian akan mengarahkan kita kepada kerangka berpikir yang lebih dalam untuk memahami evolusi perusahaan keluarga. Tahapan pertama adalah Founder Stage, di mana sebuah bisnis keluarga dijalankan berdasarkan visi dan antusiasme dari pencetusnya. Tahapan yang kedua adalah Sibling Partnership Stage, di mana sesama bersaudara mengambil alih bisnis keluarga yang dijalankan dan mendirikan proses-proses bisnis keluarga yang lebih formal. Tahapan ketiga adalah The Cousin Consortium Stage di mana hubungan persepupuan dan pemimpin keluarga dari generasi-generasi berikutnya mengambil alih dan mengembangkan bisnis keluarga yang dijalankan. Masing-masing tahapan tersebut memunculkan tantangan-tantangan yang unik khususnya jika bicara tentang usaha penyeimbangan antara kepentingan keluarga dan kebutuhan perusahaan yang mereka jalankan.<\/p><p>Jadi kesimpulannya, kepentingan manajemen dan kepemilikan adalah faktor yang krusial dalam pengembangan perusahaan keluarga. Jika di satu sisi keterlibatan anggota keluarga dapat menjadi sumberdaya dan keuntungan yang kompetitif, penting juga untuk mengelola dinamika keluarga secara efektif. Keputusan dalam memilih penerus tahta CEO dapat dipertimbangkan dari beberapa sisi, apakah itu orang dalam keluarga, luar keluarga, atau bahkan orang luar yang benar-benar asing. Keputusan itu harus bisa diambil dengan pertimbangan dan tujuan yang matang.
